I seem to always have various “bird projects” going on. Some of these are field-based projects (though rarely involving “hands-on” work) and others are completely indoor computer-based projects such as the use of data from the BBS or eBird. Some projects are a mix of field surveying and computer-modeling. Most of this research is conducted as graduate student projects that I advise. A recent example was a study of the wintering ecology of Sprague’s Pipit conducted by John Muller. Also, current student, Caley Zuzula, is nearing completion of a study examining the effects of urbanization and natural canopy cover on resource removal rates by hummingbirds.
